Holistic Anxiety Treatment Center

What do you think of when you hear the word “anxiety”? Some of us might connect this word with strong mental states such as an unexpected flood of overwhelming, inexplicable emotions or perhaps uncontrollably high levels of stress. Others might recall any number of physical responses to anxiety like shortness of breath, heart palpitations or insomnia. Though this is commonly what anxiety feels like in our minds and in our bodies, anxiety is much more than these symptoms.

In truth, anxiety is the body’s way of protecting ourselves from those deeper traumas that we’re not ready to face, whether emotionally, mentally, physically, or spiritually. Anxiety is an instinctual tool – a natural coping strategy for survival. When we live in either a semi-permanent or a constant state of fear, simple daily tasks and functions can be difficult to perform. How can we move out of survival mode and into the fullness of life’s experiences waiting for us?

The Sanctuary is a holistic anxiety treatment center that invites you to embrace a new reality where total healing from anxiety is attainable. Our first priority is for guests to feel at ease in our peaceful setting – a remote location surrounded by nature. The Sanctuary’s environment is designed to calm the overloaded nervous system and to reduce the body’s fight-or-flight response, a chemical state that can cause anxiety.

With our non-12 Step anxiety treatment program, you’ll be empowered to embrace your present and your future life – a life free from debilitating fear and full of resounding purpose.

Can Holistic Anxiety Treatment Help Me or My Loved One?

Anxiety is more than just a psychological problem and there isn’t a one-size-fits-all easy solution for it. Anxiety is actually a sign of a much deeper stress, fear or trauma manifesting itself within every aspect of our being.

We’re not born anxious. Holistic treatment for healing anxiety begins by acknowledging the truth that anxiety is a coping strategy. The first step to finding healing is to deactivate external stressors and calm the nervous system through the use of healing methods like body work, energy medicine, supplements and occasionally medicine. Once the symptoms of anxiety are eased, we turn inward to really unearth the unresolved traumas or past issues and pains that are causing the anxiety.

At The Sanctuary we believe holistic anxiety treatment can completely heal your anxiety, not just help you manage it. The cure for anxiety lies in the knowledge that we must address the core issue or issues causing it. We treat you as a whole being to address anxiety on all the levels it occurs: your mind, body, spirit.

How is Holistic Treatment for Anxiety Different From Other Forms of Treatment?

In conventional settings, anxiety is typically treated with either therapy, medication (like antidepressants or benzodiazepines) or a combination of both. This method of treatment is aimed at soothing the psychological symptoms of anxiety, but is only a form of symptom management – it doesn’t get to the heart of what’s causing your anxiety in the first place.

Trauma, in any form, doesn’t just live in our mind. It lives in our body, our cells and our energies affecting every aspect of our being. The Sanctuary’s holistic treatment for anxiety empowers you to heal more profoundly and sustainably, using a well-rounded and highly organized approach.

Our holistic anxiety healing program is completely personalized to meet your specific medicinal, energetic, physical and spiritual needs. Here, you’re not limited to one treatment option. Our team draws on a vast depth of knowledge of various healing modalities, and we’ll work with you to find what works best for you.

What Causes Anxiety?

Many of us understand our anxiety and the symptoms we experience as a result of anxiety. But we don’t usually get to the core issue of why we’re experiencing anxiety in the first place. Anxiety is not the primary problem, it’s a secondary symptom. As part of our body’s natural “fight or flight” survival instinct, anxiety acts as a warning signal to alert us that something potentially threatening is occurring, preparing our bodies to take action if needed.

But though anxiety is a symptom, at some point the anxiety itself can become overwhelming. That’s because it causes us to live in a heightened stressful state even when there’s no perceivable threat.

The only way to completely heal anxiety is to find its root cause. This might be unresolved trauma, relationship issues or life circumstances that aren’t aligned with your true purpose. At The Sanctuary, we’ll guide you to uncover what your anxiety is protecting you from, and help you face it in a safe and supported way.

What are the Different Types of Anxiety?

There are five major types of anxiety disorders:

  1. Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)
GAD is chronic anxiety that results in extreme or prolonged periods of worry and stress even though there are seemingly no logical external factors triggering the anxiety.
  2. Social anxiety disorder (or social phobia)
This disorder manifests itself through excessive self-consciousness and paralyzing fear of social situations and interactions with other people.
  3. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Commonly associated with (but not always a result of) military combat, PTSD can develop after witnessing or experiencing a traumatic event, including but not limited to physical attacks or accidents.
  4. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
OCD is the overwhelming desire to act out repetitive behaviors (compulsions) combined with recurring unwanted and often intrusive thoughts (obsessions).
  5. Panic disorder
Panic attacks and the physical sensations of heart palpitations, chest pain and shortness of breath, in addition to unexpected intense feelings of fear, terror and anxiety, are all symptoms of panic disorder.

Who is Most at Risk for Anxiety?

Anyone can experience anxiety and almost everyone has experienced different levels of anxiety at some point in their life. In fact, in the United States, anxiety disorders are the most common mental illnesses and nearly 18% of adults have experienced an anxiety disorder.

Each person has their own deeply personal reasons for developing anxiety, which is why at our holistic anxiety treatment center we believe there is no one, standardized solution.
