Energy Medicine Therapy

Energy medicine is a holistic therapy known for treating the whole body, including the mind and spirit. At The Sanctuary at Sedona, we understand that a condition is not always physical, which is why we specialize in holistic practices. What Is Energy Medicine Therapy?

In traditional Chinese medicine, a force called qi was believed to balance good health within an individual. However, blocks can hinder qi’s natural flow, ultimately causing poor health. Energy medicine was first discovered to combat these blockages and allow the free flow of the body’s energetic field.

Energy medicine has been around for thousands of years, supporting the energy fields in and around the body to encourage health and well-being. It can also promote positive emotions and thoughts.

Because energy medicine aims to promote energy flow, it can be used for specific medical conditions or to boost the spirit. Energy therapy is most often used for:

  • Sleep concerns
  • Blood pressure issues
  • Wound healing
  • Depression
  • Fear
  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Pain
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Fatigue
  • Nausea and vomiting

Types of Energy Therapy

A trained practitioner can use various noninvasive energy therapy techniques for treatment. It is also common for people to use energy therapies alongside conventional treatments to promote healing.

Popular forms of energy therapy include:

  • Reiki: The principles of this therapy include the belief that an individual has the power to heal themselves. A practitioner will provide hands-on healing through universal energy transfer from their palms to the patient. This process encourages emotional or physical healing.
  • Acupuncture: This traditional practice involves inserting needles into a troubled body area — or acupoints — to stimulate blocked qi. Medically, the body heals from acupuncture through neurochemical stimulation, immune responses and inflammatory reduction.
  • Acupressure: Similar to acupuncture, a specific body area is the focus, but manual pressure is used for stimulation, not needles. A person can learn to do this on their own or with the help of a practitioner.

How Does Energy Healing Work?

Our mind’s energy is intertwined with our physical bodies, so with any ailment we carry, we do so physically, psychologically and emotionally. Disturbances — like trauma, toxins, tension or prolonged stress — can block the energy flow and contribute to several mental, physical or emotional issues over time.

You may feel little to no physical discomfort during an energy-healing treatment. You will lie comfortably on a bed while a practitioner releases energetic blockages from the body using your chosen treatment form. As the blockages are released, you may feel various emotions or physical responses as you acknowledge the trauma and begin filling the spaces with newfound healing.

Luckily, energy healing therapy is available for anyone. We all have an energetic body that needs to be balanced and regularly taken care of.
