Why Us You Ask?
Science has now well established the connection between the mind and the body and we have embraced that in our holistic addiction recovery program. The Sanctuary at Sedona provides a comprehensive approach to treating the underlying issues of addiction.
We know that if something is happening in the body that this is a reflection of issues in other realms. Rather than only treating symptoms such as anxiety or substance use, we have to look to the whole person to determine what the root cause of these symptoms is. This means the body, the mind, the soul and the spirit have to be addressed.
We are able to do this for several reasons. Most fundamentally, we are a non 12 Step holistic addiction recovery program. This is our basic philosophy— in order to be effective, we have to widen our lens to see how things are working, or not working, in as many aspects of your life as possible. We also have to do that concurrently since we know these things all work together to determine the quality of our lives.
We always have an intentionally small group of clients. This allows us to give intensive one-to-one attention to everyone who comes here. For every person in the program, for example, we have at least one staff person living at the Sanctuary to ensure that everyone has someone to work with at all times if needed. We know that one size does not fit all and a static treatment plan established at the door does not meet an individual’s needs throughout the recovery program. We can’t possibly have the ultimate treatment plan for an individual the first day we meet. People are dynamic and fluid.
Our program effects change, deep change, and we have to be able to flex our plan as those changes occur. As we work on issues, our needs change daily and sometimes from moment to moment. At any time, we might have to slow the pace, add another aspect, accelerate how things are processed, or move onto another focus. Due to the size of our client group, and the staffing ratio, we are able to take feedback daily, all day, to determine what each client needs that day, in that moment, or for the upcoming next phase.
Our treatment plan is a work in progress as are the people who come here. Of course, there are commonalities among people with addiction, but these go beyond the focus so many years of addiction treatment history have traditionally settled on.
What we know about each addicted person is that no one chooses the pain and struggle of addiction; every addicted person hurts and hurts deeply, and addiction is a condition that springs forth from an internal ailment, its root cause.
